Blaq was born Headly Garland, the son of a musician. He spent most of his time growing up between Freeport, Bahamas and Miami, Florida.
Blaq first got his start by winning a local talent contest in Miami, which provided him the opportunity to be one of the opening acts for the Def Jam Comedy Tour. As a result, Blaq began to perform as an independent artist at a variety of local functions in the South Florida area before elevating to clubs, arenas and festivals throughout the South and Midwest.
Blaq’s musical upbringing and background make him a unique and versatile artist whose combination of Caribbean, Rock, R & B and Hip-hop music sets him apart from others.
Blaq has written, co-written, and co-produced projects for many artists as well as his own solo projects. After spending time in the Bahamas, Miami, and Atlanta, he now resides in Wichita, Kansas where he continues to write, record, and produce music for himself and others. He has compiled an enormous library of recorded material ready for multiple releases.
